The Tetepare Descendants' Association runs a successful scholarship program, providing local children with scholarships to local schools as a reward for TDA communities for conserving Tetepare Island.
School fees can be prohibitively expensive for many Solomon Islander families, and many TDA members struggle to afford to send their children to school. The TDA aims to help as many children as possible to get a good education, and to support the communities who are supporting conservation.
In the wider TDA community, more than 170 children have benefited from educational scholarships funded by donors since 2005. The number of scholarships offered is growing every year, as the conservation project expands. This year, the TDA is offering 70 secondary school scholarships and five Vocational/Tertiary Educational Scholarships - the largest number of scholarships ever offered by the TDA.
Any TDA member can apply for a scholarship and scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and greatest need.
The TDA is raising money to provide more scholarship to local children. This is a great way to help local children and families in need, as well as conservation. Anyone can contribute to the TDA scholarship fund and know that all the money goes directly to scholarship recipients to improve educational standards in the Solomon Islands. Donations of any amount are welcome. To contribute, or to find out more, please contact us.
Scholarships are awarded to high school students as well as for trades and vocations such as teaching and nursing. All funds are externally audited and paid directly to the schools to ensure transparency.
